Joy is not the same thing as cultivating happy feelings based on our circumstances. Having true biblical joy relies on our deep trust in God during the mundane and difficult times in life. When we go through various trials in life, we often see it as a hardship or difficult moment however, these trials help us draw closer to Him and strengthen our faith by cultivating joy each day.

How to Cultivate Joy

Changing our perspective: Changing our perspective in life help us to view the hardship and trails we face in life as an opportunity to trust God and grow closer to Him.

Reading the Word: Staying in Scriptures each day will remind us of God’s unchanging love for us and allow us to hear His voice more clearly.

Praying without ceasing: During the most difficult trials, it is best to remain in prayer with God and surrender our plans to Him knowing that He has a purpose for us.

Reminder of God’s Goodness: In the midst of trials and suffering we may face in this life, we must always remember God’s goodness and Trust in Him because He will never leave us.

Key Verses to Focus on

“My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.” – James 1:2-4 (NKJV).

“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us and let us run with endurance the race that it set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” – Hebrews 12:1-2 (NKJV).

“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through who also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance character; and character hope” – Romans 5:1-4 (NKJV).

When we go through the many trials that life throws at us, it is important to remember to count it all joy because it strengthens our faith in Christ and allows us to remain close to Him each day. Remaining joyful in the midst of trials allows us to surrender our hearts to Him and place our trust in Him to lead us in His path.
